Geographic Overview

Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital, is a buzzing metropolis rich with beautiful architecture, delicious food, and an energetic nightlife. Street art paints the side of every building, so you have a nice background whilst walking to get chocolate churros, handmade leather bags, or a juicy Argentine steak. Interested in tango? You are in the right place. From late night milongas to cafe-side street tangos, you will be sure to learn. With world-class museums, you can immerse yourself in Argentine culture to discover Argentine independence, Evita, the Dirty Wars, and everything in between. If big city living is not your cup of tea, Argentina offers a varied natural landscape. In the Northeast, you can see breath-taking Iguazu falls situated in a rainforest teeming with flora and fauna. The falls are nearly 1.7 miles wide and the steepest drop, The Devil’s Throat, is 80 meters high – almost double Niagara falls. In the Northwest, the Andes mountains set the scene. From birdwatching to high altitude wineries and salt flats, you will always have something to do. Salta, the capital city of the region, is known for Spanish colonial architecture and Andean heritage. To get a glimpse into the past, be sure to check out Salta’s archeological museum – it is rich with Incan Culture. After a visit to the Argentine salt flats found in a valley outside of Salta, you might be ready to head a little further south to Mendoza. Much further south is, of course, Patagonia. Patagonia takes up the Southernmost region of Argentina and boasts beautiful views, serene nature, and lovely ski resorts. Perfect for trekking, escaping the city, and just relaxing, Patagonia is a stark contrast to the busy city of Buenos Aires, the tropical waterfalls of Iguazu, and the arid climate of Salta. Bariloche, in the northern end of Patagonia, is a luxurious ski resort nestled in the Andes mountains. Further south in Calafate, the Perito Moreno glacier, a UNESCO world heritage site, draws adventurers from all over the world. Glacier trekking, penguin watching, and horseback riding help you to get to know this stunning region.
