Overview

Dominican Republic excursions can take you through diverse countryside from deserts to rainforests to beautiful beaches on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Coast. If you’re looking for a place to try adventure activities and watersports in stunning scenery then look no further. As the second largest Caribbean island after Cuba, it’s become the first European settlement in the Americas, and has many colonial towns with Spanish influence. Known for both breathtaking landscapes and interesting colonial history, it’s a great place to both relax and take in some history or learn about the local culture.

Dominican Republic Tourism At A Glance:

The Dominican Republic is the most visited destination in the Caribbean, with an abundance of natural beauty and sought after sporting destinations. Home to the largest mountain in the Caribbean region as well as the largest lake, the great landscapes, scenery, and biodiversity are a huge attraction for visitors. The favorite sport is baseball, and many tourists come for the large number of golf courses the country offers. The national dances Merengue and Bachata are integral to local culture and encourage travelers to put on their dancing shoes. The ‘Colonial Zone’, which is the historical district of the country’s capital Santo Domingo, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and gives unique insight into the interesting history and architecture of the city.

Ecotourism:

At Limon Lagoon, you can kayak across a serene lake with Kayak Limon, a community based, ecotourism project which promotes conservation and environmental education on their kayak tour. As you travel through mangroves and to isolated beaches, you learn from the local fishermen guides about their trade, navigational skills, and the ecosystem of the lagoon. The Dominican Republic is famed for its rich biodiversity, and you will be able to see a huge range of birds, flora, and fauna throughout your travels, and especially as you cruise through the mangrove lagoon.

The Keteka Difference

Meet Ramon, the owner of Redonda Mountain, who will personally take you up this remote 1,000 foot high mountain to give you views of stunning lagoons, deserted beaches, local plantations, and even views of the Samana Peninsula. Enjoy a homemade meal with Angela, Ramon’s wife, who will teach you about typical Dominican cuisine as you take in the sights on top of the mountain. With the tours that we offer through Keteka, we make sure that you enjoy a real local touch meeting members of the community, sampling local food, and going off the beaten path to have an experience to remember.
