Culture

Bocas del Toro is home to several indigenous groups, but most prominently the Ngabe Bugle,  who make up a large percentage of the province.  Bocas Ngabe Bugle communities have stilted thatched roof houses and a traditional cuisine heavily influenced by afro-caribbean culture which came with the presence of Chiquita Banana in the region and workers that were brought in from various Caribbean Islands. If you love coconut, fresh fish and tropical fruits, this is your place.  Bocas Del Toro activities include visiting some of these Ngabe villages and seeing the culture and traditions of the Ngabe Bugle people.  You may also pick up some of the local languages of Ngaberi or Guari Guari which are the primary languages of the province or keep your eye out for one of the hand made chakaras or woven bags made by the Ngabe women.
