FAQs

Why can’t I find these hostels anywhere else online?

These are all properties run by the members of the community around them. Many of the people involved in running them do not have consistent internet access and so have never created websites for these hostels. Even with a website, they wouldn’t have a reliable way to receive email inquiries. They also don’t have almost any customers that just want to book with them outside of one of the tours that come from San Pedro or Uyuni, so the managers focus their efforts on building and maintaining relationships with the tour operators.

OK, makes sense, but why aren’t they on Trip Advisor?

Again, they don’t have consistent internet access, so they haven’t created themselves a profile on Trip Advisor. For them, the most important way to continue to get customers is to provide good service to the tours coming from San Pedro and Uyuni. There are a a lot of little hostels like these around the salt flats, so if they don’t provide good service, it’s easy for the tour operators to use someone else. The lodging used on the tours we sell have reputations for being reliable and relatively comfortable options, given that they are in areas with very little infrastructure.
