Itinerary

Days 1 – 3: Sail Tthe Beagle Channel and Drake Passage
Enjoy a night in Ushuaia, Argentina before a late-afternoon boarding of the Greg Mortimer, a brand new polar expedition ship. On your first day aboard, our crew and captain will greet you and introduce you to your home for your journey.

The first three days we’ll make our way across the Beagle Channel and Drake Passage. Known as the “Drake Shake,” the rough passage will be met with our state-of-the-art vessel that will ease the journey and allow you to enjoy soaring sea birds above.

Days 4 – 7: South Shetland Islands to Gerlache Strait
Continuing our South Georgia Antarctica adventure, we will voyage to an arc of islands that skirt the Drake Passage. The Shetland Islands are inhabited by a large variety of seals, penguins, and seabirds. The islands offer incredible photo opportunities. We’ll continue our journey through the southern Gerlache Strait and will potentially visit the Weddell Sea.

Day 8: Zodiac Cruise to Explore Elephant Island
Today, we’ll take a day trip to Elephant Island. Boarding smaller inflatable boats, the zodiac cruise will carry us as we zip through the icy waters, surrounded by glaciers. Once on the island, we can explore and see where famous Shackleton landed and survived for over four months.

Days 9 – 14: Meet the locals of South Georgia Antarctica
For the second portion of our adventure, we’ll continue to a true highlight – the South Georgia. While en route, you’ll have the chance to attempt a visit the remote South Orkney Islands. You’ll meet the locals that call South Georgia home, including tens of thousands of king penguin and photogenic fur seals, while soaking in the stunning landscapes.

*An optional kayak excursion is also available for a fee of $1,200*

Days 15 – 18: Cross the Scotia Sea en route to the Falklands
As we cross the Scotia Sea, we will continue to enjoy our state-of-the-art ship’s renowned amenities and get to know the passengers that come from around the world for this truly unique expedition. During the voyage back, you’ll be able to spot albatross and whales. As the Falklands come into view, there will be plenty of chances to see a rich variety of birdlife.

Arriving to the Falkland Islands, we’ll spend a day or two exploring this small town as well have more opportunities to see more Magellanic penguins and sea lion. We’ll have a pit stop in Stanley where we’ll lear about the island’s war history and indulge in some delicious scones.

Day 19: Sail Back Through the Beagle Channel
Guided by black-browed albatross and dolphins, we’ll sail back through the Beagle Channel. Along the way, we’ll take in the last views and moments of quiet and peace and reflect on the journey we took. Tonight, a final farewell feast will be prepared with fine wines and celebratory beers to conclude our adventure. Then, lights off for the last night of your South Georgia Antarctic voyage.
