Black Rock Lodge is an eco-lodge that overlooks the Macal River Valley, with gigantic limestone cliffs as its backdrop. Join us on this tour as you enjoy a breakfast from the lodge’s palapa (an open-sided dwelling with a thatched roof made of dried palm leaves) and watch exotic animals such as Collared Araçaris, Yellow-winged Tanagers and Black-headed Saltators feast on fruits at the feeder below. Above you, you can also see other animals such as Keel-billed Toucans and White Hawks fly from across the valley.
These are only some of the many varieties of animals that call this place home. But not only are they up above the sky, down beside the Macal River, you can also search for Amazon and Green Kingfishers, as well as Russet-naped Wood-Rails. And what’s more, one of the limestone cliffs is home to the critically-endangered Orange-breasted Falcon.
Cap off those views with a sumptuous lunch under the palapa’s cool shade. After lunch, you can take a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the river, or choose to canoe nearby. And on our way out to town, you can also birdwatch slowly along the forested road, orange orchards and cattle pastures for even more exotic bird species.
