Get ready to visit a Mayan village, one of the few still existing, home to the descendants of the Mayans who built the massive city states of: Altun Ha, Lamanai, and Xunantunich. In this tour you will have the chance to see how the traditional Kek’Chi Maya village lives and how they get everything that they need from the jungle. This village gets it’s medicinal plants, musical instruments, building materials, and food from the jungle where they live. This Maya village has managed to live a life almost unchanged since the time before the first Europeans arrived in Belize.
Once we are in this village, we will lear how to grind our own corn, make a traditional Maya chocolate drink made with locally-grown cacao, and make tortillas in a traditional oven. As we are in the jungle, we must go for a brief tour to learn about the numerous spices, plants, and herbs that are used in Maya medicine and cooking.
Come with us, learn and prepare your traditional Mayan meal and enjoy a cultural experience you will not forget.
