Most of you would know that the delicacy chocolate comes its purest organic form – the cacao bean. Did you know that this bean was valued so much by the ancient Mayan people, that Mayan cacao was actually used as their currency?
Today, even though chocolate is no longer used as a currency in any part of the world, but this aphrodisiac is still known to have many healthy properties, and the cacao bean remains as one of the world’s most powerful antioxidants. Join us on this trip as we bring you to visit a traditional Mayan cacao farm and see chocolate making in its original form, using the raw cacao beans grown in the tropical rainforest.
Led by Eladio Pop, the farm owner and whose family owns and operates several cacao farms in the country, these traditional chocolate-making demonstrations forms part of a partnership with Sparrows Gate Mission to protect and promote the Mayan way of life. Cap off the tour by indulging in real organic chocolate creations, including the traditional Mayan chocolate drink – enjoyed by only the elite Mayans of the ancient times.
