Day 1 – Enter Kaa Iya National Park, Set up Camp, and Go on a Safari Drive
At 8:30 am, your Kaa Iya National Park Tour starts as you are picked up from your hotel and taken on a 4-hour drive to San Jose de Chiquitos. After lunch, you will continue deep into the Chaco forest to the border of Kaa Iya National Park. You will enter the park at 16:00 pm.

After setting up the camping equipment, you will go on the first of your safari drives. If you are lucky, you can see jaguars, pumas, ocelots, or tapirs. When you get back to the campsite, you will enjoy a freshly cooked dinner and rest for the night. (L/D)

Day 2 – Go on a Long Safari Drive to Spot Jaguars, Tapirs, and More
Bright and early at 4:00 am, you will leave the campsite and go on a 62-mile (100-km) safari drive. This is at the peak time, for the highest chance to see wildlife. Keep your camera ready! You will have breakfast on the road. Along the drive, you will check camera traps, search for tracks and scat, and see wildlife.

After lunch, you will go to a section of the park that is famous for jaguars. You will rest when the day is at its hottest, then continue on your 62-mile (100-km) safari drive. As it gets dark, there will be higher chances of spotting big cats and tapirs. In the evening, you will eat dinner and rest. (B/L/D)

Day 3 – Walk or Drive in Search of Wildlife, Then Return to Santa Cruz
You will get up early in the morning to drive or walk, searching for jaguar, tapir, ocelots, foxes, or any other species you are particularly interested in. After breakfast, you will start the route back to San Jose de Chiquitos. Have your camera ready, because you can see wildlife even outside the park.

You’ll enjoy lunch in San Jose de Chiquitos. Then, you will stop by the Valley de la Luna and the Jesuit Mission Church. Around 17:30, you will arrive back to your hotel in Santa Cruz, with a camera hopefully full of fantastic photos! (B/L)

  • We cannot promise you will see a jaguar or other wildlife as they are in their natural habitat and not a zoo.
  • The itinerary can change based on weather. Heavy rains mean some areas of the park cannot be accessed and the guide will adjust activities. The itinerary is flexible and the guide may adapt the tour to give you the best chance of seeing wildlife.
  • This is not an easy tour and not for everyone because of long hours and little sleep. The tour is geared toward serious wildlife watchers, photographers, intrepid travelers, or nature lovers. This tour is not suitable for children under 15 or luxury travelers.
