Pati valley is considered to be one of the most beautiful treks in Brazil. It is a protected area within the Chapada Diamantina National Park. Inhabited by only 13 families, it is a beautiful place to observe a pristine and preserved nature. You can only access it by foot. Hiking along this valley involves walking in remote landscapes where there are no roads, and only mules to carry the load.
If you are looking for lonely places, spectacular and colorful nature in a place disconnected from the rest of the world, then this Chapada Diamantina Trek is waiting for you. Get ready to explore Pati Valley and its hidden beauty! You will hike on long distances every day, but around every corner you will discover something new.
Besides the amazing landscape and scenic places, you will also have the privilege to get to know the few locals living in this area. In addition to the impressive views and nature, visitors also get a direct contact with the local history and culture. You will learn about the way of life of these mountain people.
Lodging conditions will be basic: beds in ground floored dorms, cold showers, shared bathrooms, and meals taken on rough wooden tables, but these are always delicious. Nevertheless, you can expect a really warm welcome from the local people of the valley. They are always doing their best to prepare delicious food for their guests and have a comfy bed ready for you, so you can have a good rest. In addition, you also can find some beers or soft drinks in by solar-powered fridges.

Day 1: Enter the Valley and get to know the local nature
500 m (547 yards) uphill | 600 m (656 yards) downhill
5-7 hours | 15 km (9.3 miles)
1 h 10 min on a rough rocky trail
1 steep descent
You will leave Lençóis by car at 08:00 am. After 1 hour of asphalt road and 1 hour 15 min of dirt road, you will arrive at 09:30 at the beginning of the path to the Pati Valley.
After a 40 minute climb, you will reach a wide plateau. The only difficulty on this flat trail is the water if it rained the night before. Sometimes you will need to take off your shoes to cross a small river. After approximately 1h45 min you will see one of the most breathtaking views of your life; the “Mirante do Pati”! It is like stepping into a film!
After a good lunch with one of the best views of the Chapada Diamantina National Park mountains, you will then continue your trek before going for a late afternoon dive in one of the delicious waterfalls of the Pati Valley.
A big part of the first day is on a plateau with no trees at 1300 meters (4200 feet). Use a good hat and sunscreen!
Dinner will be served around 19:30.
Day 2: Climb the Castle Mountain and enjoy a stunning view
500 m (547 yards) uphill | 500 m downhill
5-6 hours | 7 km (4.3 miles)
2 h 30 min on a rough rocky trail
1 steep descent
Depending on the weather conditions, you will go to the “Castle mountain” in the morning and to the waterfalls in the afternoon.
After a delicious breakfast, you will start hiking at 08:30. You will only need a light backpack for this day. You will climb for 1h 30min mostly through a forest with lots of big rocks and some muddy places. In extreme weather conditions, this climb is too dangerous and may be cancelled. When raining, the risk of accidents increases.
On the “Castle mountain” or “Morro do Castelo” you will again have a stunning view.
On top of the “Castle mountain” we need to climb some difficult rocks to get to the other side of the mountain for another great view. This will be worth the climb! There is even a little surprise on top of this “Castle Mountain”.
The descent is more difficult than the climb but there will be some trees to hold on to. In the afternoon the path won’t be difficult and you will have time to relax and swim in beautiful waterfalls.
Then you will enjoy your last night in this amazing valley!
Day 3: Sink into the nature before going back home
450 m (492 yards) uphill | 350 m (392 yards) downhill

This day will start early because you will need to walk around 21 kilometers. Begin the day with a climb of about 250 m and the rest of the day will consist in walking on nearly flat trails or downhill but nothing too technical.
Around 12:00 we will arrive on the great canyon of the Cachoeirão valley, where you will be able to take some stunning pictures!
