You will be able to spend a day with local indigenous people, learn about their customs and beliefs, before spending an evening watching shooting stars fly by. But the main event of course, will be your ascent into the clouds for an unrestricted view of the 2020 solar eclipse.
Having landed safely in Temuco, your guides will welcome you at the airport and from there, your transfer to Pucon will take about 1.5 hours. Pucon is a beautiful town situated between rivers, lakes, forests and the active Volcano Villarrica. Take your time to settle in, unpack and make yourself feel at home. In the afternoon, you will meet back up with your guides and they will go through the details of your trip. This is the perfect opportunity to ask any burning questions and to double check you have all the correct equipment and clothing. This will be followed by a welcome dinner at a good quality, local restaurant.
Today is a special opportunity to spend some time with the indigenous people of Chile and learn about their Mapuche culture. You will take part in an ethical ethnic tour very close to Pucón where you will learn about their ancient, indigenous customs, taste their gastronomy and share in their ancestral cosmological beliefs.
Having returned to Pucón, you will have a final chance to prepare for the solar eclipse day with your guides. Go through all of the fine details to make sure your day runs smoothly and you have the best experience possible.
To round off the day, you will enjoy a glorious meal in an outdoor restaurant where you will have an unrestricted view of the meteor shower.
Early in the morning, you will equip yourselves for the day by enjoying a large buffet breakfast, rich in energy and sugar; your guides will go through some final safety procedures and ensure everyone is fully equipped for the hike ahead. You will take a minibus transfer to the base of the volcano and then begin the 5-6 hour climb to the summit.
Altitude of Volcán Villarrica: 2.847 meters above sea level.
During the hike, you will enjoy 360 degree views of the valley, including being able to watch the start of the solar eclipse. In a few areas it might be necessary to use crampons and ice axes; your guides will explain how to use them safely. Once you’ve reached the summit, make yourself comfortable and get ready to see the eclipse; our guides have concocted a special cocktail for you to sip whilst the moon moves across the sun. If you haven’t managed to reach the summit before the moment of totality, don’t panic, you will be able to see it from all angles of the hike.
On the descent you will take the same route down as you took up, until you reach the car park.
Via Ferrata Climb
Having filled up on a healthy, energy-packed breakfast, the guides will equip you with harnesses and safety equipment and then you will head on your way, taking a short walk across small rivers to reach the start of the hike.
The trail will plunge you into the forests’ darkness before you reach a more dappled area. From here, you will walk for a further 40 minutes until you find yourself in front of a huge rock face. Once you have scaled the 300m of Via Ferrata, you can stroll to the summit and make yourself comfortable and ready to enjoy the eclipse.
Altitude: 1.2 meters above sea level.
One of the huge advantages of this location, is its remoteness from the main hub of Pucón and the other traveler groups gathering to see the eclipse from there. From here, you can sip on our specially concocted cocktail in the center line of totality.
The descent will take you down a secluded trail, surrounded by lush vegetation, until you reconvene with the transfer to take you back to central Pucón.
Volcano Quetrupillán Hike or Helicopter
Your day will start bright and early, with a filling breakfast, ready to set you up for the day. Board our helicopter and make yourself at home. the view from the flight to the South East of Pucón will give you unique and phenomenal views of the Araucania region; the huge valleys, lakes and mountains.
Once you have reached the crater and descended from the helicopter, you can enjoy the magical moment of the 2020 solar eclipse. The seclusion of this location takes you away from the crowds and you can enjoy the solar eclipse semi-privately.

The hike will take you off the beaten-track and away from the many travelers who hike Volcano Villarrica. It is a very scenic hike, spending a lot of time in lush forest. This volcano is no longer active.

Enjoy a large buffet breakfast for the final time and enjoy a morning of exploring Pucón. We recommend that you visit the beach (playa grande), take a stroll along the pier, and just revel in the fresh air of this stunning town. You will have a private transfer organised for you to take you back to Temuco Airport.
