Chiloe Island Penguin Reserve

Chiloe Island is a land of myths and legends surrounded by an emerald ocean, misty mountains, and hundreds of little piers that host a variety of colored wooden boats. On the Bay of Cocotue, you will take a 30 minute boat ride to Islote Puñihuil – a rocky, volcanic cluster of three islands. During the ride, you will get a chance to see Humboldt Penguins, Magellanic Penguins, Otters, Carancas, Cormorants, Ducks, Quetrus Voladores, and other local birds.

Chiloe Island Penguin Reserve

Chiloe Island is a land of myths and legends surrounded by an emerald ocean, misty mountains, and hundreds of little piers that host a variety of colored wooden boats. You will leave from either your hotel in Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt or directly from the airport and travel to Chiloe Island. After crossing the Chacao Channel from Pargua to Chacao, you will head toward the Lacuy Peninsula, an islet that is home to hundreds of penguins and sea birds. On the Bay of Cocotue, you will take a 30 minute boat ride to Islote Puñihuil – a rocky, volcanic cluster of three islands. During the ride, you will get a chance to see Humboldt Penguins, Magellanic Penguins, Otters, Carancas, Cormorants, Ducks, Quetrus Voladores, and other local birds.

On the way back to Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, you will stop for some excellent photo opportunities in Ancud at The Market and the San Antonio Fortress.
