Getting There

The tour begins in Curarrehue – after you book, we will connect you with the community guide, who will coordinate to meet you at the bus stop in Curarrehue. It’s an easy bus ride from Pucón!

How to Get to Curarehue from Pucón

From Pucón, there is a minibus that leaves from right next to the JAC Terminal (the terminal is called Buses Curarrehue – here’s the Google Map). It costs about $1.000 pesos (they use the dollar sign for the pesos here – it can be confusing) and leaves about every 30 minutes. The ride is 50 minutes.

How to Get to Pucón from Curarehue

From Curarehue, simply reverse the steps above. The buses leave every 30 minutes and the last bus leaves at 20:30.

How to get from Temuco to Pucon

From the airport in Temuco, you have a few transportation options for getting to Pucon. There are transfers (vans that you share with other travelers) that cost about $20.000 CLP (about $30 USD) per person. They are safe and reliable. The ride is a little less than 2 hours.

You can also get a colectivo taxi from Temuco airport to the main bus station in downtown Temuco (tell the driver you’re getting a bus to Pucon to be sure he takes you to the right bus terminal). You can take buses with either Jac Bus or Tur Bus – they leave about every 30 minutes. Once the bus gets going, the ride is a little less than 2 hours. The bus will cost about $2.500 – $5.000 CLP (about $4 USD – $8 USD) per person.

Taxis, Uber, and private transport options will cost about $100, depending on the service provider.

I can not begin to describe how amazing this trip is!! This experience will show you the true roots of Chile! The family we stayed with was just incredible, very kind and open, showing us their way of life, taking us for activities, and preparing traditional food throughout the experience (we did the 3 day tour). The house we stayed in was very basic and rather cold when we were there (September), but the head of the family immediately came to light the heater when we asked for it. Everything used is very traditional and an amazing experience. The family is very proud and really explains how the community works. Truly wonderful! The only difficulty was that the family does not speak any English. They did provide an interpreter who could translate (friend of the family) for the first day, but the other 2 days we had to try with my very basic Spanish, which made it difficult to have really meaningful conversations, but we made the most of that on the first day, and continued to enjoy their hospitality the other 2 (and practice my Spanish! 🙂 ).
