Connect with Ancestral Mapuche Knowledge

On this immersive Mapuche experience to the intercultural village of Trawupeyum, discover the culture, customs, and ancestral knowledge of the Mapuche indigenous peoples. Take a class in Mapuche medicine, led by a Machi elder. Enjoy a traditional lunch made with wild and locally-grown ingredients. Hike along spectacular trails to discover the deep connection between Mapuches and the Earth. End the day learning to spin and dye wool from a local artisan.

Itinerary

Begin your day at 10:00 am with a welcome gathering and brief introduction to Trawupeyum Intercultural Village. Tour the local cultural museum with your Mapuche guide for an overview of Mapuche history, customs, and beliefs.

Next, you’ll participate in an ancestral medicine workshop. Led by a Machi elder, you’ll learn  natural medicinal remedies passed down for generations.

After your workshop, you’ll visit a local cook who will prepare a lunch of wild-grown native plants and fresh-grown vegetables from the garden.

In the afternoon, set out with your Mapuche guide for a hike. Discover the connection between Mapuche and the Earth, learn about native plant species, and see the forest from a new perspective.

End the day with a local artisan, and learn how she spins and dyes wool to make hand-knit fabrics. You’ll have the chance to visit her store to admire her finished work. Your program will come to a close at 17:30 pm.
