For lovers of the alcohol pisco, Chile’s Elqui Valley would not be an unfamiliar name. Join us on this Elqui Valley tour, as we bring you to this beautiful region where pisco is made and where history comes alive.
On this Elqui Valley tour, you will first stop by the Puclaro Reservoir, a big water pool with spectacular views and where you can buy papaya-related products. After which, you will arrive at the main center of the region, the town of Vicuña. Founded in 1821 and located 620 meters above sea level, this town characterized by its beautiful adobe architecture offers a beautiful visual panorama as well as various tourist services. Here, you will visit the plaza and possibly buy some local crafts to bring home.
After which, you will also get a chance to visit small towns like Paihuano and its viewpoints. Besides that, be prepared to be wowed by the town of Montegrande, which was declared a Typical Zone in 1990. This town houses the national monuments of Casa Escuela and the tomb of Chilean Nobel Prize for Literature winner Gabriela Mistral. It also highlights the old church of 1879 restored in 1999, crowned by a tall wooden bell tower of the 19th century.
Last but not least, you will visit Pisco Elqui, a town dedicated to the production of Chile’s national alcohol pisco. You will visit a “Pisquera” where they make pisco to learn about the manufacturing process and what’s more, buy some high-quality pisco to bring home yourselves.
To cap off the tour, you will also have a chance to visit the Gabriela Mistral Museum before heading back to La Serena.
