From towering rock formations sculpted by the wind, to “cathedrals” of rocky spires, to the magnificent Tara Salt Flats, you’ll marvel at Chile’s outstanding natural landscapes and vital biodiversity on this day-long tour.
You’ll begin your day with early morning pick-up at your hotel in San Pedro Atacama. From there, you’ll drive towards the Argentine border and stop at the high Andean Wetlands of the San Pedro River. These wetlands are a vital sanctuary for wildlife, and an important natural resource at the cusp of the world’s driest desert.
From the wetlands, you’ll continue on to reach the Monjes de la Pacana. These massive, towering rock formations stand alone or in small groups across the barren desert. From afar, you can imagine them as holy men, crouched over against the wind on a pilgrimage across the unforgiving landscape.
Next, you’ll continue onward to the formidable cliffs known as “Las Catedrales” — the cathedrals. From there, you’ll get an outstanding look at the entirety of the Tara Salt Flat below. As you marvel at its otherworldly beauty, you’ll have the opportunity to talk about the importance of protecting these singular natural landscapes, and the ongoing conservation efforts in the region.
After enjoying a picnic lunch at the overlook, you’ll travel back to San Pedro de Atacama.
