  • Ride the Grey III to get up-close views of Glacier Grey

Tour Information

Duration: 4 days/5 nights

Start/End Location: Puerto Natales

Availability: January-April

Itinerary

Day 1 – Hike Almirante Nieto and Visit the Breathtaking Las Torres

Early in the morning, your guide will pick you up from Puerto Natales and you’ll depart on the two-hour drive to Torres del Paine. Once you arrive at the park and register, you will begin hiking up Almirante Nieto where you’ll have incredible views of Lake Nordenskjold and the Asencio Valley. Before continuing your hike to the famous towers, store your overnight gear at Refugio Chileno, where you’ll be spending the night. After dropping your gear off, hike an hour through a dense Lenga forest before emerging to see the amazing granite peaks known as the Torres. After admiring this breathtaking view, you’ll return to Refugio Chileno to have dinner and sleep.

Total distance: 15.5 km (9.6 mi)

Average time: 6.5 hours

Day 2 – Hike to the Cuernos Mountains and Sleep Next to the Glistening Lake Nordenskjold

After breakfast at Refugio Chileno, you’ll hike for four hours along the skirt of Almirante Nieto to get to the foot of the Cuernos. Along the hike, you’ll pass over rivers and hop across rocks as you catch glimpses of glaciers and mountaintops hovering over you. Finally, you’ll spend the night at Refugio Cuernos, located on the shore of Lake Nordenskjold and the base of the Cuernos.

Total distance: 11 km (6.8 mi)

Average time: 4.5 hours

Day 3 – Hike Through the French Valley with Stunning Views of Lake Nordenskjold and Pehoe

After breakfast, begin hiking along a windy beach towards Campo Italiano where you will leave your large pack before continuing into the French Valley. With just a small daypack, you’ll hike across a moraine and through a forest before coming to a clearing where you’ll be stunned by the spectacular views of Lake Nordenskjold, Skotsberg, Pehoe, and the hanging French Glacier right ahead of you. After leaving the French Valley, you’ll return to get your large pack and continue to Refugio Paine Grande on the shore of Lake Pehoe.

Total distance: 17.3 km (10.7 mi)

Average time: 7 hours

Day 4 – Experience the Windy Southern Ice Field and Hike Along Lake Grey

After an energizing breakfast, you will begin a four-hour hike through a small forest and along Lake Grey. This section of the park is usually very windy since Lake Grey, Glacier Grey, and the Southern Ice Field are all very open. You will continue hiking until you arrive at Refugio and Camping Grey, where you’ll spend the night. You’ll have two optional excursions of either ice hiking on Glacier Grey or kayaking on Lake Grey. Please let us know if you are interested so we can make reservations ahead of time.

Total distance: 11 km (6.8 mi)

Average time: 4 hours

Day 5 – Experience Glacier Grey Up Close and Ride the Grey III
