Milodon Cave Natural Monument is a fascinating combination of local legends, ancient archaeology, and awesome geology. On this 3-hour tour, encounter the ancient home of the Milodon ground sloth and other pre-historic residents, marvel at hanging stalactites and bold rock formations, explore the Natural Monument’s cave system, and learn the eerie legend of the Silla del Diablo (Devil’s Chair).
Begin your day with early morning pick-up from your hotel in Puerto Natales to Milodon Cave Natural Monument, approximately 15 miles (25 kilometers) outside the city. Upon arrival to Milodon Cave Natural Monument, you’ll hike along a short trail to the caves. Here, you’ll encounter massive caves, opening up from the ground like monstrous mouths.
This massive cave system was once home to countless animal and human inhabitants, who have left tools and other remains behind. Most famously, Milodon Cave was once home to the giant Milodon ground sloth. In 1895, an explorer to southern Chile discovered remains dating back over 10,000 years. Meet and take photos with the cave’s current resident “Milodon”.
Then, explore several of the Natural Monument’s nearby caves and rock formations before continuing on to Silla del Diablo (Devil’s Chair). Learn the eerie legend of Silla del Diablo, and keep a look out for the “devil” himself flying overhead in the form of an eagle!
You’ll end your day with transport back to your hotel in Puerto Natales.
