Intended for the most enthusiast visitors to whom we deliver personalized attention, no matter if you are an expert or a beginner in the observation of the skies.
The Pangue Observatory is home to the largest public telescope in Chile (63 cm, about 25 inches) and is one of two observatories in Valle del Elqui that allow visitors at night. (There are 5 total observatories in the area, but 3 are restricted to scientists). This Astronomic Tour will allow you to discover the wonders of the universe through a state of the art telescope, in some of the world’s best conditions for stargazing! Your guide will also deepen your understanding of the universe through explanations and answers to any question that you may have!
Duration: 3 hours total – 2 hours on site, 30 minutes each way for the transfer
Start Time: Depends on the season, as early as 18:00 (6:00pm) in June/July, and as late as 21:00 (9:00pm) in December/January. Please email us at email@example.com for the current starting time. There are 2 or 3 start times per night, depending on demand.
This tour starts with either a transfer from Vicuña or at the observatory itself (if you prefer to use your own transport)
La Serena – Vicuña on your own (63 km, 39 miles)
Route 41 (Ruta 41) is the only road that reaches Vicuña. You can rent a car in La Serena, take a public bus, or take a “colectivo” (shared taxi). Note that there is no public transportation back to La Serena at night after the tour, so it is best to either stay the night in Vicuña, or rent a car if you want to stay somewhere else.
