Two days of riding among salt flats and spectacular geological formations, and camping in the best stargazing conditions in the world!
(This tour requires a minimum of 2 people – please email us if you are traveling solo and we will try to get you in with a group!)
The ride begins heading north by the upper Valley of San Pedro river. You will pass the feet of Pukará de Quitor, a pre-Incan fortress, and enter the river canyon, which crosses the salt chain. The canyon is full of beautifully contrasted colors and rock formations. Next, you travel on Paso de los Toros, an ancient cattle track which zigzags along, bringing you to the top of a cliff. The path along the cliff has an incredible view over the salt chain and the San Pedro plain and Atacama Salt Flats, with the Andes Mountains in the background. After admiring the view, you will head down a huge dune that takes you into Death Valley canyon. From here, you will head to Time Valley canyon at the foot of the Salt Chain and have a picnic lunch in the Coyo Oasis. After lunch, you will cross the desert pampa and visit the archeological village of Tulor. The day ends as you arrive at an ancient Beter colonial village, where you will camp for the night.
After passing through Coyo oasis, you will head to the Salt Chain (Cordillera de Sal – a salt mountain range). You will cross through into the renowned Moon Valley, where you will perch on top of one of the great dunes for an unparalleled view of the valley. After a picnic lunch, you will enter a maze of canyons that zigzag through the Cordillera de Sal. After exiting this labyrinth, you will enter the huge canyon of Quebrada Honda de Kari, which leads back towards San Pedro.
