Encounter the Otherworldly Desert Landscapes of Chile’s Moon Valley

Located just outside of San Pedro de Atacama, Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna) is a protected nature sanctuary part of the National Flamingo Reserve. Moon Valley is filled with outstanding geological formations, formed by wind, salt, minerals, and rock over hundreds of thousands of years.

On this outstanding sunset tour, experience six of Moon Valley’s most iconic formations — from the seemingly lifeless Death Valley Lookout, to the eerie Salt Canyon, to the Tres Marias rock formations with their “heads” bowed in prayer, and more.

Your expert guide — trained in the region’s unique geology —  will explain the fascinating natural history of this awesome landscape, as well as the legends that the otherworldly formations inspire. End your day with a front row seat to one of the best sunsets you will ever experience! Watch as the sun casts red, gold, and pink light over the brilliant lunar landscape.

Symptoms of altitude sickness can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, and drowsiness.

To avoid altitude sickness, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and eat frequent snacks.

Our guide took us to the places within the valley with the least other tourists around and the best views. She explained the history and geology of the area, and prepared a filling meal of sandwiches, fruits, cake, chips and more that we ate as we watched the sunset. I highly recommend this tour, as you can learn so much about the landscape!

A ton of people head to Moon Valley around sunset, and I really appreciated our guide making the effort to avoid the biggest crowds. She took us to some of the places that would get busiest first to try and beat the rush, and then to some less-crowded places as the park progressively filled. The tour was nice and laid-back, as our guide provided us plenty of information but also gave us time to wander on our own

This was a great experience. Our tour guide really wanted us get the most out of the tour while seeing the best areas. We even had some snacks before the sunset! Great tour for family’s!!

There were more people here than other places. This is a very popular place to go especially for the sunset. The sunset was pretty but personally, think there are much better places to watch from. The guide was very good and took us to places that she thought were the highlights of the valley.

This tour was a blast! Our guide helped us avoid the large gatherings of tourists and made sure we got to see all of the best spots in La Valle De La Luna. The snacks provided were filling and delicious! The sunset was not in the best location due to the multitudes of people, but overall it was an amazing tour that I would recommend to anyone!

Stunning lookout points. Our guide gathered us and pointed out all the amazing natural points surrounding us. Also got to experience the Cavernas de Sal with little headlights that our tour guide provided for everyone. Finally, ended the day watching the gorgeous sun set behind the mountains. Our tour guide let us know what to look out for and shared his favorite parts; it was absolutely amazing watching the landscape (mountains) and sky change colors during the sunset.

This was my favorite tour of the trip! Our guide was fantastic and even took us to a hidden, off the beaten path part of the valley. The view was incredible! We felt like we were walking on Mars. The tour offered so much more than I expected. The sunset on top of the dune topped it off!
