Tour Information

Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Start and end location: San Pedro de Atacama
Availability: Year-round

Day 1 – Enter Bolivia, Marvel at Lagoon Wildlife, and Appreciate Highland Landscapes
Your Salar de Uyuni Luxury Tour begins at 7:00 am when you are picked up from your San Pedro de Atacama hotel. You will go by minibus to Hito Cajones, the Bolivian border crossing. At the border, you will leave your minibus behind and continue in a 4W vehicle.

As you enter Bolivia, admire the impressive Licancabur Volcano and the lagoons at its base. You will get to see Green Lagoon (Laguna Verde) and White Lagoon (Laguna Blanca), two of the most beautiful attractions of Eduardo Avaroa Natural Reserve. The brilliant green of the first lagoon comes from high levels of copper in the water.

After that, you will drive through the Salvador Dali Desert and take a swim in the Polques Hot Springs. The fun doesn’t stop there, as you also get to see the Geysers of the Morning Sun (Géiseres del Sol de Mañana). Every once in a while, water at 194°F (90°C) erupts from the ground.

Next, you will admire the 30,000 flamingos of the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), a main nesting center for three types of flamingos. Their red feathers are the result of lagoon algae reacting with sunlight. In the highlands, you will go past mountains, volcanic rocks, and the Stone Tree (El Arbol de Piedra). At night, you will rest at the Hotel del Desierto Tayka.

Day 2 – Spot Native Wildlife and Visit the Necropolis of San Juan de Rosario
Today, your Salar de Uyuni Luxury Tour continues as you visit Lagunas Honda, Chiarkota, Hedionda, and Cañapa. There, you can see flamingos, gulls, Andean ducks, and other wildlife. You can also admire ancient volcanic lava flows that have been shaped by thousands of years of wind. You could spot llamas, foxes, Andean pumas, condors, vicuñas, and vizcachas. In the afternoon, you will stop by the Necropolis of San Juan de Rosario. At night, you will stay at Hotel Piedra Tayka.

Day 3 – Experience the Amazing Uyuni Salt Flats
The third day of your trip starts with seeing the Zepita Galaxies. These formed 40,000 years ago in the stalactites of sub-aquatic bacteria in Lake Minchín.

Then, get ready for the most anticipated attraction of the tour: the Uyuni Salt Flats! You will walk to the top of Incahuasi Island for amazing panoramic views. You will also admire the Cactus Valley (Echinopsis). In the afternoon, you will go to Ojos del Salar (Salt Flat Eyes), the Salt Museum, the Salt Mines, and Colchani Town. In Colchani, you can buy salt handicrafts. Finally, you will drive to Hotel de Sal Luna Salada to stay the night.

Day 4 – Stop By Andean Mountain Villages As You Return to San Pedro de Atacama
In the morning, you will depart from Hotel de Sal and go on an 8-hour drive to Bolivia’s border with Chile. Along the drive, you will stop by Andean mountain villages. Once again, you will change from a 4W vehicle to a minibus. Finally, your Salar de Uyuni Luxury Tour will come to an end as you arrive to San Pedro de Atacama at 18:00 pm.
