How does a full-day climb up the only active volcano in northern Chile sound? If this is your thing, then join us for a Volcan Lascar tour as you ascend Volcan Lascar, located 70 kilometers away from San Pedro de Atacama and is known to be the volcano with the highest activity record in northern Chile – it had close to 30 eruptions from the 19th century till now!
Ideal for both beginners and experienced climbs, the smoking crater located 5600 meters above sea level will offer you a unique experience to observe an active crater. With a depth of 300 meters, you will be able to see the smoky fumaroles and feel the intense smell of sulfur, added to the fumaroles of yellow and ocher gases that emanate from its central crater.
Besides being able to take in a spectacular view of the Andes mountain range, if the conditions of the group allow it, you will be able to walk 40 minutes more until reaching the top of the volcano, located 5630 meters above sea level.
The view may be great, but due to the steep slope of the hill, its ascent must be done very calmly – if you are in a haste, you will get mountain sickness and a lack of oxygen.
Besides, as this Volcan Lascar tour starts very early in the morning, temperatures might go below -10 degrees celsius, so wear more clothing and avoid getting frozen!
