Embark on a Volcan Licancabur Tour and See The Highest Crater Lake!

Volcan Licancabur is a stratovolcano on the border between Bolivia and Chile, south of the Sairecabur volcano and west of Juriques. Join us on this 2 days 1 night Volcan Licancabur tour, as we bring you to surmount this difficult hill.

Part of the Andean Central Volcanic Zone, the summit of Volcan Licancabur is situated at 5916 meters above sea level. During the Volcan Licancabur tour during your ascent, you will also get to see a 400-meter summit crater containing Licancabur Lake –  a crater lake which is among the highest lakes in the world. 3 stages of lava flow and emanate from the volcano.

Licancabur has been active during the Holocene, after the ice ages. Although no historic eruptions of the volcano are known, the volcano has primarily erupted andesite, with small amounts of dacite and basaltic andesite. Its climate is cold, dry and very sunny, and vegetation such as cushion plants and shrubs are found lower on its slopes.

Considered a holy mountain by the Atacameno tribe, this volcano has relations to Cerro Quimal in northern Chile. Archeological sites have been found on its slopes and in the summit crater, which was possibly a prehistoric watchtower.

Your guide will give you details and recommendations for the ascent before the trip. The view may be great, but due to the steep slope of the hill, its ascent must be done very calmly – if you are in a haste, you will get mountain sickness and a lack of oxygen.

Highlights

  • Ascend one of the toughest volcanos in northern Chile
  • Take in the best views of the Andes mountain range
  • Get to observe one of the highest crater lakes in the world
