You tour guide will pick you up from your Santiago hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned van, where you can relax and take in the scenic southeastern drive to the center of the Andean mountain range. When you arrive at the valley of Cajon del Maipo, you can scan the natural landscape for rough snow-capped peaks, lush vineyards and flourishing orchards. The group will disembark at 9,843 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level at Embalse del Yeso. Walk around the glistening turquoise waters of the reservoir and capture amazing photographs as you navigate around rugged canyons. Your guide will provide information about the geology and ecology of the region. Then return to the van and enjoy a wholesome picnic with a selection of Chilean wine. After lunch, your guide will take you along a rural road to San Jose de Maipo, a quaint town surrounded by the Andean mountains. It has been the capital of the region since 1792, and it harbors artisan shops and a lively central plaza. You will have time to explore its streets and learn about local folklore, as well as enjoy a traditional empanada at a local shop.
