Explore Andes Landscapes of Cajon del Maipo from Santiago

On this tour, you will travel along the valley Cajon del Maipo from Santiago and be immersed for a day in spectacular scenery. Along the way, you’ll make several stops in beautiful places such as El Yeso Dam and Reservoir, a viewpoint over a glacial valley, Duck Lagoon, El Yeso Waterfall, and the Plomo Natural Hot Springs. You will be able to take pictures, gaze at the landscapes, learn about the geomorphology of the valley and its flora, eat amazing local food, go on a 2-hour hike into the mountains, and – if you’re lucky – spot native fauna such as condors, eagles, chinchillas, culpeo foxes, and more!

Itinerary

You will start your journey heading east to the valley Cajon del Maipo from Santiago. After driving for 45 minutes, you will arrive at the entrance to the valley. Then, you’ll continue through the valley to El Yeso Dam and Reservoir. On the way, we will be able to observe vineyards, rock formations, native vegetation, the river Maipo and two of the rivers that lead into it, as well as glacial valleys and other sights.

Your second stop will be at El Yeso Reservoir, where you can take pictures of the gorgeous scenery that includes mountains, crystalline waters, and a canyon where one of the region’s main rivers begins. Then you’ll continue to the Yeso Valley Private Park, located 9,514 feet (2,900 meters) above sea level. There, you’ll explore the area on a 2-hour hike to Duck Lagoon, renowned for its incredible turquoise waters and wide variety of birds. You will have 40 minutes to explore the lagoon. Once the walk is finished, you can bathe in the Plomo Natural Hot Springs, then eat a delicious picnic lunch on their shores.

As you return to Santiago, you will make one last stop at El Yeso Waterfall.
