Chile has some of the clearest skies in the world ideal for stargazing! This is a fascinating tour to the residence of a Chilean astronomer who has built the closest private observatory to Santiago in the foothills of the Andes. The evening will include a talk about the stars and constellations that can be seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Then, you will be able to look into the Universe through a variety of telescopes both before and after sunset. Depending on the time of year, you will be able to see different planets, stars, clusters, and nebulae. Venus and Mercury are almost always seen. We may also see Jupiter and its moons in permanent motion, as well as Mars and Saturn with its rings. Afterwards, you will be served wine and an assortment of cheeses and snacks as you discuss the marvelous wonders you have seen in the Chilean skies. This is a fun activity for couples, families, and guests of all ages!
