Tour Information

Duration: 08:30 am – 21:00 pm
Start/End Location: Hotel pick-up/drop-off in Santiago
Difficulty Level: High (rocky terrain, 3-hour ascent to summit, high-altitude)

Your trekking and hot springs day trip will begin at 8:00-8:30 am with hotel pick-up and 1-hour transfer from Santiago to Maipo Canyon. In the small town of San Jose, you’ll enjoy a typical Chilean breakfast and buy any extra snacks or water in town.

From San Jose, you’ll continue onward another hour to the trailhead. From the trailhead, you’ll ascend 3 hours along difficult, rocky terrain with outstanding panoramas of the mountains. The climb is difficult, but the view is well worth the effort! Your trek to El Morado Glacier will take approximately 3 hours.

Upon arrival at the summit, you’ll have an outstanding view of El Morado Glacier stretched out in front of you. Here, you’ll have time to relax and enjoy complementary snacks before beginning your descent. The hike back down to the trailhead should take another 2 hours.

After arriving back at the van, you’ll drive to the Baños Colina thermal springs. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to change into swim wear in private (though primitive) facilities.  As you sink into the springs, enjoy the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich water and marvel at the Andean landscape all around you.

After enjoying the springs, you’ll continue back to Santiago (approximately 2 hours) and get dropped off at your lodging.

This is a great way to discover the beautiful Andes! The glacier Morado is really worth viewing after an easy to intermediate 2 hours and half trekking. Then, the hot springs are well deserved and so relaxing… Our guide, Guillermo, speaks perfect english and has been driving us all day around and sharing a lot of knowledge about Chile. Overall, a great day to remember!

Can’t say enough positive things about [this tour operator]. Received phenomenal service! We were part of a small group. We were picked up and dropped off as promised and provided with excellent, very kind, personalized and prompt service from Jana one of the owners. The tours themselves were absolutely amazing! The Cajon de Maipo trek was other-worldly. Absolutely breath-taking! Second only to the surroundings was our guide Guillermo Retamal. He made our experience truly unforgettable. His energy and passion, his extensive knowledge and his sense of humor made the day magical! We had such an amazing time with Guillermo that we booked another trip with him for the Andes Horse-back Riding tour the next day and we were not disappointed. It is a day I will never forget. It is rare to find people who can create such special experiences. Guillermo is truly gifted in this way. If you have the opportunity to book an excursion/tour with him, you should jump at the chance, you will not be disappointed!

We had a magical day hiking in the Andes. Guillermo picked us up at our hotel and we drove ~2 hrs to the start of the hike the last part on a dirt road winding through snow capped peaks to reach a remote destination. We were lucky to spot a condor along the way. I can’t say how long we were out or how far we hiked but it was glorious. During the hike we became fast friends with Gui whose sense of humor, warmth, knowledge and appreciation of the natural environment were infectious. We climbed to a spot where the glacier was spilling between the peaks of the mountains. At that elevation (~11-12k ft) the temperatures dropped, but the sky was clear blue, and the sun was brilliant. It was magnificent. The descent was a blast, sliding/running through the snow to get back to the car. We then drove higher into the mountains to top the day off with a luxurious soak in natural hot springs. Who would want to leave such an idyllic spot far up in the Andes with such a wonderful host? It was perfect.

We went on a glacier hike and hot springs excursion with [the tour operator]. It was so fun and they were so welcoming! Jana organized everything for us via email, and even offered us a free ride from the airport. They picked us up In a bus from our hostal at 8am for the day. We were take to a little town for breakfast (included), then up to the mountain in Cajon Del Maipo for the hike. Bumpy ride! The hike was tough given the altitude and incline and there were many guides so we could break into groups by speed. Throughout the hike we took many breaks and got info about the mountain. Getting to the glacier was so exciting and rewarding! When we came back down, the guides had laid out snacks and sandwiches and wine! So nice!!

Then we bussed over to the hot springs for a dip. We headed home after!

Amazing day, great trip for the price, better company 🙂

This is a great hike. The scenery is breathtaking and the glacier is awe inspiring. Elvis was clearly a knowledgable and experienced guide. He and his interpreter, David were really supportive and encouraging, and both helped make it a memorable day. Thanks Guys!!

This glacier trek tour was incredible! The hike was the perfect length and not too difficult. With this tour, I was able to enjoy all the parts of the Andes I wanted to, including a glacier trek by a lagoon, a visit to the hot springs, and see the volcano in Cajon del Maipo! On the way back, we stopped to for cheese and wine while watching the sun set in the valley. My guide, Simon, spoke great English and made sure that we had plenty of time to do everything we wanted in the mountains. I would recommend this tour to anyone who loves adventure and wants to experience the beauty of the Andes!
