Rafting Cajon del Maipo Full Day Experience

Highlights

Spend the day paddling the best whitewater rapids around Santiago de Chile, and enjoy a local lunch in a unique restaurant with panoramic views of the Maipo River, after the rafting morning!

Description

In the heart of El Cajón del Maipo, a wide and deep valley of almost 44 miles, halfway through we find the area of San Alfonso, a very quiet place where local farmers and workers live in contact with the mountain, the river and the road that links them with the urban area of Santiago, from where hundreds of visitors show up every weekend to enjoy the wonders of mother nature.

The Maipo river goes through the whole valley, beginning in several glaciers at the heart of the Andes mountains, deeper into the valley, right where the border with Argentinian is. The copious snowfalls that the Andes receive during winter and the melting of glaciers eternal ice during the summer guarantees an average flow of 3,260 ft³/s.

With the years, San Alfonso area has become a well-known center for river sports such as rafting, kayaking or hydrospeeding. And that is because of the river width, its rapids and the water speed at this part of the river. Rafting Cajon del Maipo is definitely the best you can find near Santiago.

    Loved it!!!

That’s a crazy fast little stretch of the Maipo River, lots going on there in a short distance. I only wished it was more river running time!
I wonder if it’s a matter of not having those class III rapids available for a longer duration, without getting either bigger class V water that the Maipo is world famous for, or just what their rationale is about the duration of run time and the logistics involved shuttling folks.
Either way, it was loads of fun, one of the best memories of the trip.
The guides were awesome, good equipment, good facility, and really came together very well right from picking us up at our hotel, the adrenaline fueled and spirited lunch after the river trip, and then back again that afternoon to our hotel door step. A dang good way to spend the day!
