Explore Cajon del Maipo, led by a Chilean cowboy. View the stunning El Morado Glacier during a barbecue lunch in the Andes.
A van will pick you up at your Santiago hotel around 7 a.m. and take you to Cajon del Maipo, which is located just outside Santiago. The trail begins at the foot of San Jose de Maipo volcano or the small town of Banos Morales. A local guide will meet you there with his horses, and you will receive safety instructions, as well as lessons about how to maneuver the horses. Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience riding a horse. The guide will teach you everything you need to know. You will ride through the Valle de las Arenas, a colorful basil that harbors a river and a host of flora and fauna. The ride will last about three hours until you arrive at a large lagoon surrounded by a glacier, where your guide and a muleteer will prepare a traditional barbecue for the group. You will have time to explore the area and take photos, and the muleteer will teach you about the region and mountain life. After lunch, the group will head back down the mountains, where a van will wait to take you back to your hotel in Santiago. The tour will last till around 8 p.m.
