Ride through strange rock formations, oases, and ancient ruins – and still be back in time for lunch! These tours of four hours or less are a perfect way to get a quick look at some of Atacama’s most stunning landscapes.
As you ride through the Catarpe Valley, you will encounter the San Pedro river, where some of the area’s only vegetation grows, offering an incredible contrast of stark desert colors and bright greens. On the way back, you will cross the Toro Pass, the first road that connected San Pedro with Calama. The view from the top of the valley is stunning.
This desolate valley near the Salt Mountain Range has a landscape with strange formations and colors. In the heart of the valley, you will ride through huge sand dunes that form a natural labyrinth.
Sequitor is the agricultural heart of San Pedro. This ride is a perfect way to discover an authentic Atacameñean village and to experience the diverse flora and fauna of the desert, including the famous Algarrobo and Chañar vegetable trees (which the horses love!).
We will ride through the oasis of Sequitor, which is the agricultural part of San Pedro.
The ruins of Pukara and Quitor date back to the 12th century and overhang the San Pedro river, near the entrance to the Catarpe Valley. There are more than 200 pre-Incan structures, built from stone and mud.
On your way to the Salt Mountain Range, you will cross the Dinosaur Valley, so named for its strange looking formations of rocks and hills. You will also cross huge dunes and enjoy the stunning desert landscape of Atacama.
