Bienvenido a Medellin, the city of eternal spring. We’ll be at the airport ready to take you back to our secluded hacienda (30 minute drive).

Unpack, relax and settle-in. We’ll meet at 3pm for a short intro and then the afternoon is yours – go for a wander, take a dip in the pool, enjoy a massage or maybe just hit the cocktails. There’s a welcome BBQ at 7pm and, if you’re feeling brave enough, you can try out our Colombian salsa lesson (we’ll have the local firewater on hand for encouragement)!

Today we head to Guatape – the most colourful town in Colombia (and that’s saying something). We’ll start early by climbing the 765 steps to the top of La Piedra where we’re treated to jaw-dropping panoramic views over the reservoir. After lunch there’s time to do your own thing – there’s zip-line, boat rides, water sports & more – or you could simply stroll the quirky towns colourful streets. Tonight we head to a nearby restaurant known by the locals as serving up some of the finest quality food from the region.

Time to get up close & personal to the sizzling urban sprawl that is Medellin. We’ll start with an artisanal coffee tasting experience and then ride the metrocable over the mountain & into the city (the views are breathtaking). We’ll then continue with a whistle-stop tour of the city highlights. In the afternoon we’ll visit comuna 13 to witness first-hand the social transformation in one of the cities most notoriously dangerous zones. And afterwards we head to the trendy El Poblado neighbourhood to enjoy dinner and sample the infamous Medellin nightlife!

After a busy few days you can take today at your own pace. You can choose to simply relax by the pool and enjoy the exotic surroundings or, if you’re feeling more active, there’s horse-riding, paragliding and the option to explore Medellin more. In the evening we regroup to ‘Puebliar en Chiva’. This basically translates to riding around in a traditional Colombian bus (fully equipped with dance-floor & pumping latino beats), while stopping off at various nearby pueblos for a quick drink and a bit of people-watching. It’s a must-do Colombian experience!

The fifth day of our Colombia Tour Package is all about getting outdoors, getting active and exploring the magnificent Andes mountains! We follow a local hiking trail meandering through the Colombian jungle while passing many a rustic village en route. There’s a short (3hrs) and long (6hrs) route depending on how energetic you’re feeling. And after all that exercise we’ll spend a more chilled evening under the stars back at the hacienda. We’ve invited a local speaker to join and enlighten us more on Colombia’s difficult past.

Another day, another unique & charming Colombian town – Santa Fe de Antioquia. First up we’ll explore the historic centre by wandering its cobbled streets, traditional churches and hidden squares. Afterwards, we’ll ride moto taxis over the impressive Puente Occidente bridge and on to our next activity – wine tasting! Yes, we’ve found the most incredible vineyard on the banks of the Rio Cauca to enjoy lunch, wine and a relaxing afternoon by the pool. And for tonight we’ve saved the best till last – dinner high up in the mountains with a spectacular view overlooking the dazzling city lights of Medellin!

It’s time to say adios to the intensely seductive Medellin – but don’t worry – you’re only getting started. Following a short 1 hour flight you’ll swap the Andes mountains for Caribbean coast. After checking in to the hotel the afternoon is yours to take in Cartagena at your leisure – wander the charming old town, marvel at the colourful colonial buildings or simply relax by the pool, sip a cocktail and view this vibrant coastal city from above. Tonight you’ll get to savour the delicious local cuisine with a unique dining experience we’ve organised in the city’s old town.

Today we hire our very own private speed boat and set off for some island-hopping around the oh so very tropical Rosario Islands. We’ll swim, we’ll snorkel, we’ll sunbathe and generally enjoy the pristine beaches and crystal clear sea. But be sure to save some of that energy for later. We’ll head back to Cartagena and kick-off the evening with a Champeta (Afro-Caribbean) dance workshop before hitting-up the local bar scene to try out our new found moves.

On the 9th day of our Colombia Tour Package, the itinerary is wide open for you to entertain your own personal interests. You could head out of town to the nearby Bazurto market or Palenque village to get a better perspective of real life Colombia. Or if mud baths are your thing there’s the Totum mud volcano. If you prefer staying closer to home its well worth wandering the backstreets of Getsemani – the grittier less touristy part of Cartagena – to check out the iconic street graffiti. This evening we regroup over a spot of rum tasting (when in Cartagena!) and share stories of our earlier exploits.

Day 10 – CHILL DAY
It’s an early start as we say goodbye to Cartagena and make the 4 hour bus journey towards Parque Nacional Tayrona – a great opportunity to catch up on sleep after a few late nights. Our hotel is located in the most tranquil of natural settings – amidst the lush Colombian jungle – and so today is all about relaxation. We have an awesome pool, outdoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, luxurious restaurant, cocktail bar – and if that’s not quite enough – we’ve also lined up a massage. And don’t worry, if relaxation isn’t quite your thing (you know who you are!) there’s the option to go hike the neighbouring jungle.

We can’t think of many better feelings than waking up knowing you’re going to spend the day inside this exotic, otherworldly, Colombian national park. It’s epic! There’s 2 ways to the beach. The first involves a 1 hour hike (or horse-ride) along a scenic coastal trail. And the second is the fairly challenging and much less travelled 3 hour jungle hike which passes through ‘Pueblito’ – the Kogi indigenous village, still inhabited to this very day. It’s absolutely breathtaking! Whichever route you choose we’ll regroup at the picture postcard beach and spend the afternoon basking in its sun-drenched shores.

Time for a change of scene as we make our way to Santa Marta airport for the short 1 hour flight to Colombia’s bustling capital – Bogota. After checking into the hotel the afternoon’s free for you to explore the city however you please. We recommend wandering the charming old town – La Candelaria – and then taking the metrocable up the impressive Monserrate mountain where you’ll be treated to spectacular panoramic city views. In the evening we’ll try out the lively Bogota nightlife including the local ‘sport’ of Tejo (let’s just say it involves beer and gunpowder)!

Today we sample Colombian life outside the urban sprawl by heading to the neighbouring & much smaller town of Zipaquira – famous locally for its hugely impressive underground salt cathedral (WAY cooler than it sounds!). We’ll spend a fairly relaxed day visiting the cathedral, exploring the town, tasting the local delicacies and – one of our favourite pastimes – people watching! We see out our final evening in style by heading to the very hip & trendy local hotspot of Plaza Usaquen, where we feast at one of our all-time favourite restaurants.

How quickly time flies when you’re having fun! Yes, sadly you’re now at the end of your trip – but what an awesome experience it’s been. You’ve danced salsa, hiked jungles, scaled mountains, swam pristine oceans, felt the buzz of mega cities, mingled with locals, eat top-notch food and met many fun & interesting people along the way. After one final team breakfast we’ll take you to the airport to begin your journey home. We hope you’ll leave with a sense that you’ve experienced something special and that in amongst all that fun you’ve gained a genuine insight into the real and authentic Colombia.
