Start/End Location: Medellin, Colombia
Day 1: Exploring Leticia and Tabatinga
On the first day, you will arrive at Leticia, a small town in the Colombian Amazon region. This is where you will get a chance to explore the street market, local medicine plant pharmacy and the famous Santander Park, where you can watch and listen to hundreds and thousands of parrots. Then you will head to Tabatinga, which is another small town located on the Colombia-Brazil border, to see the Amazon river. You will then head back for dinner thereafter at your accommodation, Hotel Waira.
Day 2: Calanoa Reserve, Local Community Experience and Canoe Adventure
After breakfast, you will take a speedboat ride on the Amazon river to the Calanoa Reserve, where you will visit the local Mocagua community and get a better understanding of their culture. Then, have lunch in the village and tour the tiny streets with its colorfully painted houses. After that, you will join a workshop where you will learn traditional handicraft skills in the areas of basketry, chambira or ceramics. Then, you will hike through the jungle and return to Calanoa Reserve via canoeing through the stream of Matamata in Amacayacu Park. You will then have dinner in the reserve and spend the night in Calanoa Jungle Lodge.
Day 3: Puerto Nariño and the Pink Dolphins of the Tarapoto Lakes
On the third day, you will take a native boat after breakfast with your guide across the Amazon River, to reach the village of Puerto Nariño. You will then take a walk through this small village, where you will get to see the local town hall and see the Natutama Foundation, which is dedicated to the education and conservation of the Amazon Communities. Lunch will be served in typical Amazonian style in the village, before you continue to the Tarapoto Lakes, where you may be able to spot pink dolphins. Dinner will be back at the lodge.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast, we will transfer you back to Leticia and to the airport to take your flight back out.
