Escape the city and take a hike to Bogota Waterfall La Chorrera, the highest in Colombia. You’ll see soon after starting how the noise of the city disappears when you find yourself walking peacefully through the thick forest. You’ll also get to see a second waterfall called El Chiflon, which you can swim beneath and walk behind.
Bogotá is located on a vast savanna formed by the east-Andean mountain range at an altitude of 8530 feet (2600 meters) above sea level. Although the majority of the city is rather flat, the city limits to the east are met with an incredible mountain range that follows Bogota’s length all the way from south to north. This mountain range is what is locally known as the East Hills. They have a large influence on Bogota’s climate, and they are also the most visible geographical feature. Even though they are always present, they are completely unknown to many locals and visitors. This excursion will take you to the southern part of the hills to explore their natural wonders.
Duration: 6 hours
Start and end location: Bogota
Your Bogota Waterfall tour will start at 8:00 am as our driver picks you up from your hotel. You will travel approximately 45 minutes to the southern part of the hills, on the road to Choachi, passing through a traditional small village with a beautiful town square and an amazing viewpoint.
Along with an experienced guide, you’ll be dropped off at the hike starting point in the countryside. There, you will begin your hike through natural scenery and mountains to discover the base of the first waterfall, El Chiflon. You’ll have the opportunity to walk behind the waterfall and feel the water touch your skin. If you’re really adventurous, you can take a swim at the waterfall’s base! After that, you’ll regain your energy by eating a locally prepared snack.
Next, you will head out again through the forest to reach the most important natural wonder of this exotic trip: La Chorrera Waterfall. Expect to reach the bottom of this 1,936-foot (590-meter) waterfall in roughly 1 hour. You’ll pass creeks, see a wide array of beautiful plants, and feel amazed by the sounds of nature surrounding you, including the splashing of the waterfall. When you arrive at the waterfall’s base, you will have the opportunity to relax a bit, enjoy the view, and take some pictures before hiking back.
You’ll arrive back at the car after about 3 hours. After the hike, you will enjoy a well-deserved meal at a wonderful local restaurant. Depending on availability and timing, we will have lunch at Choachí or La Candelaria. After a satisfying day out on your Bogota Waterfall Hike, we’ll drive you back to your hotel or any place in the city you prefer.
After you book your experience, you will receive a confirmation email from us confirming that your payment went through. You will then be connected directly to the tour operator, in case you have any further questions. We are also happy to answer any questions about the tour, or travel in general in your country of destination.
