A once in a lifetime opportunity to go off the beaten track and truly explore the exquisite landscapes that hide within Colombia’s borders. This trip encompasses diverse adventure, from hiking in the Andes to trekking in a jungle teeming with wildlife, before rafting down a river in Sierra Nevada; this 10 day exploration has it all.
Day 1: Medellin – Having been welcomed by your guide, you will take a community urban walk around Medellin. You will have the chance to learn about the ancestral and indigenous origins of this city surrounded by mountains.
Day 2: Antioquia – Today you start your 4 day hiking experience in the Andes. You will trek through ancient cobblestoned trails, cross the Melcocho River and then start an ascent to El Tigre Ridge where you will spend the night. This is approximately a 7 mile hike over 7 hours.
Day 3: Antioquia – You will hike following the Rio Verde (Green River) through forests and past waterfalls, Here you will have the chance to cool off under the massaging, cascading waterfalls. Your accommodation for this evening will be at a local homestay. Walking time for today is about 6 hours covering a 9 mile distance.
Day 4: Antioquia – Today you will hike to Sonson but not before reaching magnificent peaks overlooking breathtaking views and refreshing in the cooling waters of fresh rivers. After lunch, a private transfer will take you back to bustling Medellin. Walking time is approximately 7 hours and ground covered will be 11 miles.
Day 5: Santa Marta – Having taken an internal flight from Medellin to Santa Marta, you will have some free time to explore the Parque de los Novios.
Day 6: La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta – This day will take you to the ‘Heart of the Earth’. Your day will begin adrenaline fuelled as you go tubing down a river. In the afternoon you will be welcomed by locals with a bag weaving workshop and spiritual cleansing ritual.
Day 7: Lost City Trek – You will set off from Machete early, trekking through the phenomenal flora and fauna of a tropical jungle. We will provide you with a refreshing snack of fresh watermelon. We will hike for approximately 8 hours today.
Day 8: Lost City Trek – Today we will continue on our hike to get closer to the Lost City. On our way we will learn about ancient native Kogi and Wawi communities. Hiking time will be 10 hours today.
Day 9: Lost City Trek – After hiking for a further 6 hours, you will reach the majestic Ciudad Perdida. It is a city lost in wonder, often shrouded by mist and fog giving it an ephemeral feeling. Relax above the clouds and admire the view.
Day 10: Lost City Trek – Enjoy your final day of hiking and exploration before chilling on a pristine Caribbean beach. (Hiking time approximately 6 hours)
Day 11: Santa Marta – Time to head home or continue your travels.
