Duration: 3 Days 2 Nights
Start/End Location: Medellin, Colombia
Day 1: Medellín – Colibri del Sol
On the first day, you will set off from Medellin and embark on a trip to the town of Urrao, located in the middle of a huge valley between high Andean mountain chains and forms part of the green highlands of Southwest Antioquia. Upon arrival, you will take a small tour through the village to experience the authentic peasant culture of this remote part of Antioquia. Then, you will travel another 17 kilometers to reach the Colibri del Sol nature reserve, located in the outskirts of Las Orquidias National Park. Spend the night at the visitors’ center.
Day 2: 3-hour hike or horseback riding to Paramo del Sol
The next morning, you will explore the region with 2 options – either via horseback riding, or a 3-hour hike. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide who will allow you to gain a better unerstanding about the endangered ecosystem of the Colombian Páramo before you reach Páramo del Sol of Las Orquidias National Park – situated 3300 meters above sea level with an average temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. This is where you will find a diversity of flora and fauna, including various endemic species, before you return to your accommodation at the visitors’ center.
Day 3: Birdwatching in Andean cloud forest + Return to Medellin
On the last day of the tour, you will embark on another trail named after the rusty-faced parrot, where you will arrive at a spot perfect for birdwatching. After this, you will then embark on your return trip to Medellín.
