Day 1 – Go on a Boat Tour and Observe Lowland Animals
In the morning, you’ll be driven from Yopal to the Eco Hotel Juan Solito in Los Llanos Colombia. Along the way, enjoy the fantastic landscapes and animals you can see from the road. Once you arrive, you’ll enjoy a typical Llanero meal.
After that, you’ll go on an afternoon boat tour to watch the magnificent lowlands sunset and observe birds and other local wildlife. In the evening, you will learn about the lowlands plants and animals as you view some camera trap photos, which could include pumas and jaguars. You’ll rest for the night in the Eco Hotel.
Day 2 – Go on a Safari by 4×4 or Horse and Visit a Ranch
After a filling breakfast, you will go on a 1.5-hour trip to Aurora Ranch. You’ll see how the ranch manages their large amount of livestock so that they do not damage the wildlife, vegetation, or the natural pastures. You’ll gain a better understanding of the daily life of a llanero cowboy as you learn about the elements and strategies of the job.
Next, you’ll choose between a 4×4 or a horse to go on a wildlife tour. You could spot capybaras, white-tailed deer, alligators, wild horses, and wild pigs. You’ll also have the chance to see a variety of birds such as arauco, garzones, herons, curlews, owls, guereres, ibis, and more. After that, you’ll eat a traditional lunch and go back to the hotel to rest for the afternoon.
As the sun sets, you’ll set out again to observe nocturnal animals. This is also a great area to see the moon and starry sky. After dinner, if you’re interested, you can learn about llanera harps, poems, and traditional folk songs as you sit by a campfire.
Day 3 – Be a Cowboy for a Day or Learn About Local Plants and Animals
Today, you have a choice about your activities. You can become a cowboy for a day and help locals gather and corral stock animals. Or, you can learn about animals and medicinal plants as you tour the ranch. If you decide on the second option, focusing on nature, you can go out to observe birds and howler monkeys.
To supply your lunch, you will catch fish from the rivers of El Toro, El Indio, or Rio Chire. After eating the delicious fish you catch, you will go back to the Eco Hotel Juan Solito in the afternoon to relax for the rest of the day.
