This tour is adventurous and highly demanding; it lacks the usual comfort of more conventional tours. Water is scarce, and the little electricity available is obtained from gas generators and solar panels. Roads are unpaved and dusty. The sun and the heat are very intense during the day, and temperatures drop dramatically during the night. There are no beds nor conventional hotels. Sleeping usually involves chinchorros (handwoven hammocks) hung at Wayuú villages (rancherías) camping sites, or tourist inns. You must be physically fit for this trip; it not suitable for people with any sort of physical handicap, nor for children under the age of 8 or adults over the age of 70. Although medical facilities (hospitals) are available, it is not recommended that anyone with a serious or chronic health condition participate in this tour. Temperatures range between 25° and 30°C.
