Itinerary

The day begins at 6:00am, with a drive on the Costanera Road, where you will have ample chances to spot exotic wildlife, such as monkeys, sloths, and a huge variety of tropical birds. you will also pass the Ballena Marine Park and your guide will explain its unique history and how it became the first of its kind in Latin America. You will also pass through the town of Palmar Sur, which is home to the mysterious spherical stones left by the indigenous Borucas around 400 BC. The drive ends around 7:30am in Sierpe, where you will energize with a healthy breakfast.

Around 8:00am, you will board a boat that will take you 30 minutes down the Sierpe River, passing through the largest conservation of mangrove swamps in Central America, and a RAMSAR site (i.e. part of an international Convention of Wetlands). During the ride, keep your eye out for monkeys, water snakes, crocodiles, and water birds.

After exiting the river, you will continue in the ocean, enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Drake’s Bay on the way to Corcovado National Park. After checking in at the park’s ranger station, you will hike some of the rustic trails. Inside the park, there are around 375 species of birds, 6 cat species, 67 reptile and amphibian species, 4 species of monkeys, 600 identified species of insects, and over 1,500 species of trees. Some of the highlights include the tapir, the giant anteater, the white lipped peccary, the silky anteater, and jaguars.

After the hike, you will enjoy a picnic lunch at the ranger station, before departing the park around 3:00pm. Around 4:30pm, you will stop back in Sierpe for a cold drink and a chance to change clothes and relax before finishing the drive back to Dominical (arrival around 6:30pm).
