DAY 1. Pick up from San Jose and transport to Hotel Best Western Irazu. Breakfast will be included
DAY 2. A morning transfer from San Jose to Sarapiqui and check in by the late afternoon at the Rainforest lodge. After checking in, we will have a Kapi Kapi Tour and learn all about the traditions of the Maleku culture. This tour will be led by a local Maleku indigenous guide and will become with a cocktail called ‘chicha’, an indigenous drink made from corn.
You will then continue learning about other indigenous cultures in the area by visiting the Alma Ata Archeological Park, a burial place for disappeared Votos people. We will also enjoy a guided walk of the Ethnobotanical Garden which is full of native herbs and demonstrates the diversity of rainforest fauna.
DAY 3. The morning will start with a Chorotega Nimbuera Tour. This activity is an educational activity and you will discover the ancient art of the Chorotega’s. A local guide will explain about the traditions and customs of this indigenous group and then proceed to teach you about the various pottery utensils made by the Chorotega’s.
The rest of the day will be a free day to explore the Museum of Indigenous cultures located near the lodge which you will be staying at.
DAY 4. This day will start with a Chocolate Tour which will be led by a local expert in cacao production, the origin of Chocolate. We will then check into the Guayabo Lodge and breakfast will be included.
DAY 5. We will embark on a tour to the Guayabo National Monument which is one of Costa Rica’s famous archaeological sites and then stay overnight at the Guayabo Lodge.
DAY 6. Morning transfer to Puerto Viejo of the Talamanca area. We will check in at Almonds and Corals, which is located on a secluded beach called Manzanillo beach. Breakfast will be included.
DAY 7. Start the day by meeting the Bribris indigenous people and have a full day tour with this indigenous group. You will start by travelling in canoe to arrive at their village and learn everything from their traditions to how they use natural resources. Try out their food and even learn how to use a bow and arrow! Lunch will be included in this full day tour.
DAY 8. Enjoy a free morning and then be transferred to Hotel Best Western Irazu in the afternoon.
