Duration: 4 Days 3 Nights
Start/End location: Lago Agrio, Ecuador
Miscellaneous: This tour is available in English & Spanish. German is also available upon request.
You will start your trip from Lago Agrio at 9:30 am, where you will be driven for 2 hours to Cuyabeno Bridge for lunch. After lunch, you will start your 3-hour hike down the river to your lodge. Once you reach your lodge, you will have an introductory walk around the lodge and your guide will give you a briefing after dinner. For those who wish to see the Amazonian nightlife, there is a night walk option available.
You will trek into the rainforest in the early morning hours to see the rainforest’s thriving activity. This is also where you will learn about how life in the tropical rainforest co-exists in a fragile balance. After lunch at the lodge, you will navigate along the Cuyabeno River to try to find species of monkeys, and possibly freshwater pink dolphins. You will again venture into the forest again after dinnertime to see the varieties of animals inside.
After breakfast, you will follow the “taricaya” (turtle trail) to visit the Seoqueya community, where some local families of the Sionas indigenous community live. You will be shown how “cassave” (yuka bread) is prepared, and your guide will explain to you local traditions and cultures from the past to the present. After lunch at the lodge, you will head upstream with your motor canoe to visit the Laguna Grande, where you will navigate in the lake and admire the flooded forest by black water or Igapo, considered an ecosystem of the rainforest, dominated by the famous Macrolobium trees which are homes of Epiphytes plants and birds. You will have time to go swimming in the lake, and enjoy the spectacular sunset in the rainforest. On the way back to the lodge, you will venture downstream to search for Caimans alligators and fishing bats.
You will start this last day on a short canoe excursion to watch the sunrise over the jungle and catch sight of some bird species. After breakfast, you will navigate upstream to reach the Cuyabeno Bridge and have lunch before taking the bus back to Lago Agrio. You will arrive at approximately 3:30 pm to catch your transport back to Quito.
