The Chimborazo is known to be the highest point on earth, so imagine the view from Chimborazo Summit! From the peak, you can clearly see the peaks of the other nearby volcanoes, like the Cotopaxi, El Altar and Sangay. It’s also pretty common to see the clouds forming a blanket well below you, with other summits poking out in the distance. It really does make you fell on top of the world.

Itinerary

Day 1: Quito – Chimborazo Refuge (16,400ft /5.000m)

Our tour starts in Quito, from there we will drive south towards the city of Ambato (8,858ft/2,700m), we will drive through the Avenue of the Volcanoes for about 5 hours until we get to the Chimborazo’s reserve. Here we will walk up from Hermanos Carrel refuge (15,744ft/4,800m) for an hour to the Whimper’s Refuge (16,400ft/5.000m), where we will have dinner and get some rest. There will be an early light breakfast served just before we get our gear ready and start hiking to the Chimborazo Summit.

Day 2: Refuge – Chimborazo Summit (20,702ft/6.310m) – Quito

At midnight, we will start our climb to the top of Ecuador’s highest mountain, Chimborazo, which will take us about 8 to 10 hours. We will get to the top (20,702ft/6.310m) early in the morning. It is a perfect place for resting and pictures of the beautiful Andean surroundings. After some rest, we will start our descending to the Refuge which will take 3 to 4 hours. Once in “Whymper Refuge” we will pack our gear and go down to “Hermanos Carrel Refuge”, where our transportation will be ready to take us back to Quito (B/BL/-)
