The Illinizas (Illiniza Sur and Illiniza Norte) are a pair of volcanic mountains that are located to the south of Quito. They are located in the Illinizas Ecological Reserve, and are separated by a saddle that is about a kilometer long. The peaks are among the highest in Ecuador, with Illiniza Norte standing slightly shorter than Illiniza Sur, its southern counterpart, at 5126 meters (16817 feet) and 5263 meters (17267 feet) respectively. Join us on a 2 days 1 night tour as we bring you to climb up Illiniza Norte. Be prepared to be wowed by the amazing views it offers!

Day 1: Quito – Nuevos Horizontes Hut
On the first day, you will leave from Quito in the morning and be driven through the Avenue of the Volcanoes, until you get to the village of “El Chaupi”. Then, you will continue until you arrive at the “La Virgen” parking lot – 3900 meters (12795 feet) above sea level. This is where you will start your 3-hour hike up to the “Nuevos Horizontes Hut” – 4750 meters (15580 feet) above sea level. You are expected to arrive in the afternoon, and will spend the day relaxing. Dinner will be served and you will stay the night there.
Day 2: Nuevo Horizontes Hut – Summit of Illiniza Norte – Quito
Your second and final day of the tour will start at 05:00 am, where you will have a light breakfast and pack your climbing equipment before leaving the refuge at 06:00 am. You will hike up towards the saddle formed between both North and South peaks, and then to Illiniza Norte summit – situated 5126 meters (16817 feet) above sea level. It will take you around 3 hours to get to the top, incuding some easy scrambling. After you get to take in the spectacular views the top offers, you will start your descent – done in only about 2 hours. Once you arrive at the refuge, after having some food and packing your stuff, you will head back down to the La Virgen parking lot and be driven back to Quito.
