Rumiñahui Ecuador is a dormant, heavily eroded stratovolcano 4706 meters above sea level. Situated in the Andes mountains 40 km south of Quito, Ecuador, it is overshadowed by its famous neighbour Cotopaxi. Join us on a Rumiñahui Ecuador hiking tour and spend the day getting to know this less-popular yet beautiful neighbor!
On this Rumiñahui Ecuador tour, you will leave Quito early in the morning and be driven southwards through the Avenue of the Volcanoes towards the entrance to Cotopaxi National Park. From this point, it will take you around 30 more minutes to get to Limpiopungo, a beautiful lake in the heart of the national park situated at 3700 meters above sea level, with gorgeous views of surrounding peaks including Cotopaxi.
From here, you will start the 4-hour hike up through small Andean grass, then you will get on a sandy section, which leads to the last section, involving some technical walls and loose rocks before getting to the summit of Rumiñahui Volcano, 4706 meters above sea level. There is an option to use a rappel during the descent, before heading back at the end of the day.
Duration: Full day (approximately 8 hours)
