Sincholagua Ecuador is an inactive volcano located in 17 km northeast of Cotopaxi Volcano and 45 km southeast of Quito. Join us on a Sincholagua Ecuador full-day tour and hike up this mountain to take in the spectacular views!
Sincholagua Volcano is the 12th highest peak in the country at 4899 meters above sea level, but also one of the lesser known ones. The name of the mountain comes from the indigenous language Quichua and means “strong above”. Due to its close proximity to Cotopaxi, the second highest peak in Ecuador and the most popular volcano, it is far less frequently visited compared to other mountains in the country. It has a sharp peak and at one point had glacial cover year round, but all of the glaciers melted a few decades ago. However, snow can still be seen on the peak since there is there is sometimes heavy snowfall at the summit.
On this tour, after a delicious breakfast in Cotopaxi National Park, you will be driven for an hour to 4100 meters above sea level, where you will follow a grassy ridge until a rocky steep place, and then continue hiking up for about 4 hours until you get to the last section – a 30 meters of almost vertical easy scrambling that leads to the summits of Sincholagua Volcano.
The ascent will take approximately 3 to 4 hours, and there is an option to use a rappel during the descent, before heading back at the end of the day.
