Day 1: Quito – Green Horse Ranch and Pululahua National Reserve
The first day of the trip will see you set off from Quito towards the Green Horse Ranch, housed in a crater. You will ride around the volcanic cone (which is covered by a cloud forest) and will be able to witness interesting geological formations and mineral avalanches blooming with wild orchids and traditional Andean agriculture while getting a better understanding of history and nature. You will stay for the night in a cozy and peaceful bed & breakfast in Pululahua National Reserve, housed within the walls of the crater.
Day 2:Â Pululahua National Reserve – Yungilla Village
On day 2, you will start your day by going westwards climbing through forests of bamboo and passing over narrow mountain ridges with spectacular views before reaching the village of Yungilla, where a cottage camp and hot evening meal awaits you. This is also where you will have a bird’s eye view of cloud-forest covered mountains and valleys.
Day 3: Yungilla Village –Â Maquipucunanature Reserve – Yungilla Village
You will commence day 3 by leaving your horses behind and start your day on foot, as this section of the trip is no longer suited for horses anymore. While you hike, you will get a chance to have a closer look at Mother Nature in the land of the Tucans through hidden trails between highland and thick jungles and narrow hollow earth tunnels – while your local guide explains to you about plants, wildlife and sustainable agriculture in the region. Then you will arrive at the Maquipucunanature Reserve as your end point, before returning to Yungilla in the afternoon to learn more about cheese production and organic fruit farming.
Day 4:Â Yungilla Village – Tulipe – Quito
On the final day of the tour, you will start your day by car to the ceremonial baths of the Yumbo culture in Tulipe, where you will learn about Ecuador’s pre-columbine history, before stopping by Heike’s Exotic Bird Garden, a German garden full of hummingbirds. You will then return to Quito in the evening.
After you book your experience, you will receive a confirmation email from us confirming that your payment went through. You will then be connected directly to the tour operator, in case you have any further questions.
