On these day trips from Merida, travel down the Convent Route south of Merida to explore a series of historic towns and villages. The trip down the road will introduce you to Mexico’s colorful history through the attractions of the towns.

Visit Mayapan, the political and cultural capital of the Maya in the Yucatan, as well as its stunning cave which has been featured by National Geographic. You will also visit the Loltun Cave which contains Mayan paintings from the Late Preclassic Era.

Of the 106 municipalities south of Merida, you will travel to a few of the following: Tecoh, Chumayel, Teabo, Dzan, Ticul, and Oxkutzcab. In addition to visiting villages known for their convents, you may also visit Acanceh, a Mayan archaeological site, and Mani, a village home to the church and convent of San Miguel.
