El Ocote Biosphere Reserve is home to outstanding biodiversity, breathtaking natural landscapes, and endangered wildlife. With massive sinkholes, caves, and underground rivers, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve protects important ecosystems and provides spectacular, truly unique outdoor experiences.
On this full-day El Ocote Reserve guided hike, adventure along the massive La Venta River Canyon. Descend 700 stairs into the canyon where you’ll visit the breathtaking El Aguacero Waterfall. Here, watch as the water cascades from high cliffs over moss-covered boulders, and explore the many rocky outcroppings and small caves created by the falls.
Then, continue your adventure in the El Encanto Cave, where you’ll have the opportunity to swim in the refreshing subterranean river and delight in the outstanding geography of the cave.

The El Ocote Reserve guided hike is easy to moderate. Trails are mostly flat. Inclines and descents are made via stairs.
This experience is not recommended for persons over 60 years of age, pregnant women, or children under 7 years of age.
