This community-led Mayan immersive experience is a remarkable opportunity to discover the living cultural heritage of the Maya, in a way that directly impacts local communities and supports Mexico’s indigenous peoples.

Begin your tour with a traditional medicine workshop and tour of the community herb garden. Your guide, a community elder, will introduce you to the healing properties of different herbs, as well as the history of herbal medicine in Mayan culture.
Next, learn the artisinal skill of extracting Henequen fiber from Agave. This important fiber, known as “green gold” is used to make Henequen yarn. An elder will teach you the process and invite you to participate.
Later in the day, meet with a Mayan elder who will introduce you Mayan history and lore. Learn Mayan battle strategies such as the trap and ambush technique, passed down for generations. You’ll have the honor to hear the history of your guide, who lived through the 1910 Mexican Revolution. Learn his personal history, and discover the surprising role of the Maya in the Mexican Revolution.
End the day learning about Melipone bees. This important species is referenced in Mayan temples and ancient codices. Learn about the bees’ role in rituals, medicine, artisanal work, and day-to-day life.
