See Endemic Mexican Birds in a Beautiful Nature Preserve

On this Mexican Birds Tour adventure, you will find yourself among beautiful pine and oak forests at the Tufted Jay Preserve deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains. There are amazing hiking opportunities for all experience levels on the beautiful mountain trails around the preserve’s canyons and valleys.

The Tufted Jay Preserve is an ecotourism and conservation project led by people from the Ejido El Palmito Community. By joining this expedition, you support their conservation efforts and livelihood.

This particular ecosystem is the year-round home for the Tufted Jay, also known as the “Chara Pinta,” an elusive bird species from the crow family that is endemic to these forests. Their habitat is threatened by logging and other human activities. This is the only place in the world where you can see this beautiful bird, plus a myriad of other migratory and resident birds.

  • See the endemic “Chara Pinta” or Tufted Jay
  • Hike through gorgeous pine and oak forests of a nature preserve
  • Enjoy a tasty traditional lunch of corn “gorditas” with a local family
